Scatter is going open source!

Why go open source, why not keep it closed source?

We think that we can develop a better product through the open process instead of limiting ourselves to a few internal programmers. But that means that we need you to help make this peer-to-peer (p2p) backup framework exactly what it both should be and needs to be. So hereʼs what is needed: Click

About Scatter
Scatter can be a useful tool to protect you from theft, maximize your available storage space, and assist you in restoring your data when something goes wrong. We hope it makes your life easier.
Scatter is not intended to be another compressed or off-premise backup solution. Storage is pretty cheap now. You can buy terabyte drives for a little over $400.
It is about being secure, productive, cost conscious, and efficient. If you manage a network we don't need to tell you about Sarbanes-Oxley, business continuity, or the amazing things that users can do to your network.
You want your data secure. You want to be able to access your data quickly just as you would read or write to any network drive. Passwording a drive won't protect your data if someone learns the password.
It needs to be a couple of point-and-click's and forget about it. And it needs to work on any operating system.

"The value proposition is not about storage."
(Our favorite quote from a VC contact. They talk like that a lot.)
